Friday, July 31st, 2009

Beautiful production by Dela.

“They say that I’m an old soul, trapped in a young physical // I’m so cold, only to certain individuals // I don’t know, guess I matured at an early age // Watchin niggas prematurely shift to the pearly gates…”

The Daily Hit: Marco Polo - Nostalgia (feat. Masta Ace)

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Off of Marco’s ‘07 release Port Authority (dope album, if you haven’t heard it yet you’re missin out). Brilliant production with a classic hip-hop feel, and of course Masta Ace does it justice. Peep the video also.

“People in the audience, Masta Ace the name // I write rhymes and insert em inside ya vain // it runs through ya blood stream, get inside ya brain // cuz I first put my name up inside the train // my mic control been unprecedented // and you wrong if you thought you was the best that did it // see yall jus started messin with it // I been married to the game since ‘88, you just committed…”

The Daily Hit: Nas - Untitled (Louis Farrakhan)

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Nas spittin some heartfelt raw ish combined with some dope production by stic.man of Dead Prez easily made this one of my favorite cuts off Untitled. The dialogue and eerie flutes on the intro sets the mood perfectly. (Side note: I was never too infatuated with chains, but the one in the pic above has to be one of the dopest pieces I’ve ever seen. Better pic here.)

“No revolutionary gets old, or so I’m told // You’re left full of bullet holes when you tell the people go free // Oh, it’s a matter of days before they try to take me // I heard gun shots rang, his bullet got my name // I aint see em take aim, I dreamt this day came // Cuz I stood in the face of damnation // Satan, spat at him, flat out disgraced him // He want my blood, why me? // Why not the fake ones who deserve death man? // Fuck it, I’ll take one // Can stop me but can’t stop a whole nation of millions who feel you deceived them // They believe in, reparation makes it even // So I’m deadly now because of one reason, they listenin // In Budapest, Japan, China, and Switzerland // We getting it in son…”

The Daily Hit: Reks - Telescopes (feat. Jon Hope & Lucky Dice)

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Produced by Statik Selektah. Looking back, Grey Hairs was probably my favorite LP of ‘08. Took me a while to appreciate the world play they got goin on in the chorus:

“Why you wanna roll them dice (Lucky Dice) // Don’t you wanna see what hope (Jon Hope) bring // Careful ‘fore you wreck (Reks) your life // See through my telescope I // I can see the future, I…I can see the future…”

The Daily Hit: Shyne - Niggas Gonna Die

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

Some classic Shyne ish, produced by The Neptunes. Hip-hop fun fact: did you know that Shyne’s dad, Dean Barrow, is the current Prime Minister of Belize?

Free Shyne!

“I just wanna move mad bricks // for all the days I never had shit // Now I’m young heartless and rich // Pistols and pussy, straight from the door // Brown paper bags full of blood money, need more // Too much aint enough // High off dust, greed never endin // Catchin bodies I’m what Gotti was supposed to be // It’s overwhelmin // Face smothered in cocaine, against all odds // Life is what you make it, well I made it leavin mothafuckas naked // I get excited watchin niggaz bleed helplessly // Put ‘em out they misery, selflessly // A coward dies a thousand deaths // I got a thousand tecs, takin niggas with me when I go, fo’rilla…”

The Daily Hit: Lupe Fiasco - Hustlaz Song

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Lupe rippin up a sped up soulful beat. This was off the Food & Liquor Advance that leaked before the album was released, causing Lupe to go back and revise / add new songs to the final version…this shoulda made the cut IMO.

“I’m just a rose in weeds // and I arose with reasons to stay on this road I lead // til I leave with what I sold, my soul indeed // leave my son with the sum of what I sold in deeds // I’m foldin yall, prolly headed for the pen like bowlin balls // kept it directed at the pen and wrote it for yall…”

The Daily Hit: Sean Price - Violent (Produced by 9th Wonder)

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Can’t say it better than P does himself: “this beat is just so cool, you know you just wanna relax and…say some old cool shit…but that’s not me…”

“Ayo, supersonic chronic got my mind at ease, but // never think that the god won’t squeeze // Sean is the man, and I’m doin all that I can // when I rhyme feel like the world in the palm of my hand…”

Sean Price - Violent (Produced by 9th Wonder) (Rapidshare) (Sharebee)

The Daily Hit: La Coka Nostra - Choose Your Side (feat. Bun B)

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

I first heard this one night on WERS, didn’t realize who’s track it was, I just knew Bun ripped his verse and the beat goes hard. Finally realized it was La Coka when I saw them perform it at Rock The Bells. Produced by Alchemist. Dope track to say the least, head noddin music.

“It’s just, one man, one mission and one mind // with one button, one push, only one time // with one chance, one target and one shot // with one second to pray, that’s all that Bun got…”
