“Girl I want you in my life cause you have made it better // Thinkin we all in love cause we can spend a day together // We talkin spendin the rest of our lives // It’s too many black women that can say they mothers, but can’t say that they wives…”
Common - Retrospect For Life (feat. Lauryn Hill) (Rapidshare) (Sharebee)
Not a normal hip-hop daily hit, but a dope song either way. I added the Prelude track at the beginning, which is the first track on Get Lifted, because the transition is too nice to not listen to every time.
“It gets no realer than this // its Tay and Elzhi droppin that definitive shit // This should’ve been a double album, commemorative disc // Cuz hip-hop might need us // And in your town, no tellin where you might see us // My whole team comin through in tees and wife beaters // Out, doin the damn thing like beavers…”
Been bumpin a lot of Skyzoo lately in anticipation of The Salvation, due out Sept. 29th. Produced by 9th Wonder off their mixtape The 3 Day High.
“I hops back in the coupe, and head to southside Queens // to see this queen, and she only about Sky // weed and ???, twistin I’m done with it // I drive off knockin LB “Lovin It”…”
Note: OB4CL2 is in stores today, and I highly recommend coppin! Also, to anyone in the Boston area, Mos Def + Talib Kweli + Jay Electronica + Medina Green @ House of Blues tonight.
I don’t know why the only version of this I can find is measly 64kbps, but the track is so dope I don’t care…this coming from a dude that barely fucks with 128kbps (VBR or 192+ all day!). Joell doing what he does over nice production by The Faculty. So many clever one-liners, it’s ridiculous…
“You’re nothin, you’re frontin, you’re stuffin on Thanksgiving // My tummy is hungry, I’ll put you on a plate listen // I’m makin it hard like a blowjob with great rhythm // (Ayo Joell, calm down!) Nah, I aint even tryna play with em! // I’m fiendin, this money they handin out will change living // The project is ugly, I daily barley escape prison // I’m beginnin to feel pinned down like a rape victim // Wishin for a deal, tryna deal with the fact I hate wishin…”
Found this in the back room of my old job. It was titled “YO MS Raps!” MS-DOS 5.0 was the first version available in a retail package. Looks like MS spent a few $$$ to produce the effects in this video to promote it.
I love how Pusha and Malice usually start their albums / mixtapes off strong, Hell Hath No Fury being no exception. Produced by Pharrell, the perfect intro to a brilliant album. Also, I don’t know who Spanish Lee, the spanglish speaking dude boasting on this track is…but he ties it together so well lol…
“No serum can cure all the pain I’ve endured // From crack to rap to back to sellin it pure // For every record I potentially sell in the store // It’s like Mecca to the dealer that’s sellin it raw // So many deceive ya, I’m on touch with the ki’s, move over Alicia // I force feed ya the metric scale // Raps like child’s play, my show and tell // Within each verse you see the truths unveiled // They manufacture proof as they lie to themselves // Puppets on the string like a yo-yo // Bouncin like a pogo, they prayin I never go solo…”
“…break boys bones like Roy Jones // decoys roam, but they can’t mess with my people // He who stepped to the Ruckus recognize that I be lethal // My gats spits at wack niggas blacks get, tactics // Make it hard for any infiltrator to attack this…”
Reading a newspaper, I saw a picture of birds on the electric wires. I cut out the photo and decided to make a song, using the exact location of the birds as notes. Not the most original idea in the universe, but I was curious to hear what melody the birds were creating.
I feel like this is one of the few tracks* on the Slaughterhouse album they got right. Lyrics and beat just work, and everybody goes in [||]. Produced by Mr. Porter, samples “You’re No Good” by The Harvey Averne Dozen. (Oh yeah, and Joell’s verse is just crazy as usual:)
*(don’t take my words with too much weight cuz I still haven’t given the whole album a proper listen, but this song immediately stood out…)
“Man I feel ruined inside, somebody tell me what to do // I’m a guy that loves music, but I am truly through with the vibe // sometimes I wish it was dead, rather than look this stupid alive // I found out I been pursuin a lie // It’s nothin like what I thought man, the proofs in the pie // cuz aint no puddin in the hood when niggas shoot to survive // but what’s my single? ask dude in the suit and the tie // who stole my whip man, I’m losin my drive // I remember when singles used to have cuts on it // Nowadays the rewind button got mad dust on it // Can’t bring it back if its wack, when it come back then it’s crack // I’m fiendin for somethin good so I can puff on it // Ya’ll don’t even give me a buzz // I can’t enjoy a glass of beer if it’s really just suds…”
